Little Women Growing

Women first started to join A.t.omo with Beatrice in September 2001. After a year’s training and Sunday games with boys, Silvia turned up andthe first woman’s double was born.

In the following couple of years we had women coming and going, until we were able in 2005 to put up a women’s single draw with six competitors (two of them from abroad) and a mixed double within the most prestigious tournament – the Italian Gay Open.

In November and December 2005 the A.t.omo Women Teamtook part for the first time to the Lombardia Cup, organised by the Fit sectionin Lombardia,Although results were not overwhelming, it was important for us to poke our nose out of our club and compete with other women.

In the following months other women players joined in and the group is actually growing. Now, there are ten of us and we meet on Sundays to play and train both with boys and among ourselves.

At the recent Limone del Garda Tournament we doubled the positive experience of Igo. This time more women players competed in thewomen’s single and in the mixed double.

Of course, we look forward for more women players to joining us to have fun, make friends and improve our sports performance.

The final target is for us to have more and more tennis mates and be able to organize one or more draw for the Italian Gay Open.
